The Caldwell Parsonage was built in 1734 for the prominent Union merchant trader, Captain Benjamin Caldwell. He had a store in the center of the street and was known as the first "barrister" or broker in the area. Captain Caldwell was a very successful trader who went on to establish several more stores along the same road.
